Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Offshore drilling company Dolphin Drilling is restructuring its Norwegian staff due to an expiring contract and no new missions for the Borgland Dolphin rig. As the contract expires in August, more than 150 employees will be made redundant. Trade union representative Espen Kristoffersen in Industri Energi says the cuts will affect 140 offshore employees and 25 on land. The administration in Dolpin Drilling's parent company Fred Olsen Energy did not confirm the number, but stated that the process is ongoing and that the company is in dialogue with the unions to "adapt to the challenging times in the industry and the future and reduce costs". Dolphin Drilling dismissed 180 employees in the spring of 2015.
