European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The National Trust Scotland is reported to have started a 90 day consultation process with the aim of cutting 139 positions. The company is said to be motivated by cost-cutting and managerial structure reform. The proposals mean that around one in four of the trust's full time staff are set to have their contracts terminated. It is understood that the majority of the jobs which are affected are based at the Edinburgh headquarters. The Prospect union who represent the staff have suggested that the proposals, which include the creation of 68 new positions, are an attempt to replace permanent staff with contractors. The union has warned that this approach will not deliver the intended cost reductions and in the longer term could be more expensive. The full extent of the restructure will become apparent following the completion of the consultation process.
