Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 May, the commercial court of Thionville decided to liquidate the maintenance company Sommet that had been placed in receivership only one month before the decision. The company currently employs 179 people; all of whom are to be dismissed by the end of May. The workforce is mainly employed in two regions in France: the Nord - Pas-de-Calais region, and the Lorraine region. In the Nord - Pas-de-Calais region three sites are currently operational: Grande-Synthe with 21 employees, Prouvy with 21 employees, and Corbehem with 48 employees. The Lorraine region is also host to three sites in Clouange (Moselle), Atton (Meurthe-et-Moselle) and Heming (Moselle), and 89 individuals in total are currently employed in this region. Local authorities in the Nord region have stated that they will try to find a company to take over the site and hope to save some positions.
