Description
Italian tyre manufacturer Marangoni is to dismiss 120 workers at the site in Rovereto (Trento). The company attributed the dismissals to the recent economic crisis and particularly the increasing competition from China.
Workers are already availing of the Extraordinary Wages Guarantee Fund. Meetings are ongoing between the company, trade unions and representatives of the province of Trento.
The first 80 layoffs will begin in August 2016, when the public subsidies are expected to end. The other 40 job cuts will occur in the following months. The company is however considering alternatives to direct dismissals, including voluntary exits especially for older workers, and outplacement programmes aimed at relocating a limited number of employees to other sites within the group, either in Italy or abroad.
According to the unions, the proposals put forward by the management are limited and further negotiations are sought to find a joint solution to avoid dismissals.
