Description
Swiss food producer Nestle announced to close down its German site in Mainz. A total of 380 employees and 25 apprentices will be affected by this decision while Nestle management wants to move production to Schwerin (Mecklenburg) in order to save costs. In 2013, Nestle opened the new production site in Schwerin and therefore created 450 jobs (see 07.2013).
The management however seeks a socially acceptable solution including the option for some employees to work at other Nestle sites in Germany. In addition, the company wants to set up a transfer agency. However, Nestle and the works council still need to negotiate a plan for the job reduction scheme. Nestle currently employs around 339,000 staff worldwide.
