Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
T-Mobile Poland, a mobile phone network operator, has announced that it will cut about 500 jobs via a voluntary dismissal programme in 2016. The programme will mostly affect the headquarter in Warszawa, but it will not affect the sales department. The programme is a part of a new business strategy for 2016-2020. The company explains its decision with the need to change the organisational structure in order to improve the business processes' efficiency. According to the programme, labour costs will drop by an estimated 10%. The conditions of the programme will be negotiated with the employees' representatives.
In 2015, the operator cut over 300 positions across the country.
T-Mobile was founded in 1990 and it is owned by Deutsche Telecom. It has been formerly operating in Poland as Era (re-branding took place in 2011).
