Description

US-based beverage company Coca Cola announced plans to close several of its sites in Germany. The company plans tol cut 550 jobs throughout the country. Affected sites are located in Berlin (Hohenschoenhausen), Bremen, Oldenburg and smaller sites in the states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt.

A total out of 320 job cuts will take place at the company's site in Bremen as well as 140 job cuts in Berlin. The bottling plants and logistic centres will be closed until July 2016. While 75 jobs in logistics will remain in Berlin, jobs cuts in Baden-Wuerttemberg will mainly affect employees in this area. Three out of six sites will be closed in Baden–Wuerttemberg.

According to the company job cuts are due to internal restructuring with the company seeking to become more competitive through streamlining its production network. The company seeks to offer alternative employment to affected employees alternative jobs as well as the option of partial retirement or severance payments. Executive board and the works’ council are currently negotiating severance packages.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Coca Cola currently employs around 9,500 staff in Germany and over 770,000 employees worldwide.
