Description
Energy company SSE has announced plans to cut jobs at its Fiddler's Ferry coal-fired power station in Widnes, in North West England. Plans reveal that the company intends to close three of the four turbines by April, which puts 213 jobs at risk. The plant has operated for 45 years, though there have been increasing pressures over recent years to move away from coal as a source of energy towards greener options. A spokesperson for SSE confirmed that consultation with those affected had already started.
