Description
Construction company Kier has announced plans to cut 190 jobs from its workforce. 80 jobs will be cut as a result of the rationalisation process following the company's acquisition of Mouchel in the Summer of 2015. A further 110 jobs are to go from the company's 'Area 9' contract. This contract, for road maintenance and improvement work in the West Midlands area, is offered by Highways England, who have revised their spending and this has resulted in a knock-on effect for jobs. It is being reported that the job cuts will come from all areas of the business, from office staff to site workers. Kier has said that it will prioritise voluntary redundancies before compulsory cuts. It is not known when the job losses will take effect.
