Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The low-cost airline Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, is taking up flight operations at Vienna airport and looking for 600 new employees in the upcoming two years. According to media sources 400 flight attendants and 200 pilots will be hired. So far, the German part of the corporation has been carrying out operations in Austria. With Eurowings the group tries to compete with other low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. However, this competition has raised concern among the trade union 'vida', responsible for the sector, as Eurowings wages are 15 per cent below the collective agreement of Austrian Airlines, also part of the Lufthansa group. However, the management of Eurowings Austria is open to talks with trade unions.
