Description

The Finnish National Board of Antiquities, Museovirasto, is to cut 45 full-time equivalents following completed employer-employee negotiations. In total 29 employees will be let go, 11 employees will be retired and the remaining five jobs will be cut through different internal restructuring programmes. The restructuring is due to governmental budget cuts resulting in a deficiency of €2 million. Following the internal restructuring opening hours will be cut for several of the museums which form the National Museum of Finland and two smaller museums will be closed.  The National Board of Antiquities will scale down its activities and the department of cultural heritage protection will be closed.

The National Board of Antiquities operates museums, conducts research, and performs regulatory functions (ie. performs inspections, issues opinions).

The ERM has reported on previous redundancies at the National Board of Antiquities following budget cuts in 2012.
