Description

University of Eastern Finland (Itä-Suomen yliopisto) in Joensuu has initiated employer-employee negotiations with the aim of cutting 200 jobs. The university has to save €7–9 million Euro following reduced funding from the Finnish Government. The negotiations concern all university administrative and supportive personnel as well as a range of faculty. The negotiations concern 1,200 employees in total. Job reduction measures may take the form of early retirements, direct dismissals as well as temporary lay-offs and non-extension of current contracts.

The Finnish government is in total reducing the grants to the Finnish universities by €600 million during 2016-2020, leading to redundancies at many of the 14 Finnish universities. The ERM has reported on ongoing employer-employee negotiations at Aalto UniversityÅbo Akademithe University of Helsinki and Lappeenranta Univeristy of Technology
