Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Finnish part of SSAB's Ruukki Construction division is to cut 61 jobs in Finland, of which 22 front-line jobs and 39 office jobs. A number of sites in Finland will be affected and most of the workforce reductions will be implemented during the first half of 2016, some through natural attrition. The roofing specialist Ruukki Construction has launched a cost-saving program in all countries where it is active. The aim is to save SEK 200 million and the total workforce will therefore be reduced by approximately 300 people. The aim of the cost-reducing measures is to ensure business profitability and improve operational efficiency.
Ruuki Construction employs a total of 3500 people and has production facilities in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine and Romania. Beyond production and customer service in these 8 countries customer service also exists in Denmark, Latvia, Germany, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and in the Czech republic.
SSAB also announced employer-employee negotiations regarding 210 employees in its steel mill in Raahe, Finland.
