Kathrein, the German mobile communications aerial manufacturer, will shut down its plant in Nördlingen in April 2016. A total of 700 jobs will be lost. The first 200 jobs will be shed by the end of 2015, with the remaining job cuts coming into effect by the end of April 2016. According to the company's CEO, the closure is a result of an unexpected collapse in demand and current overcapacities leading to higher price pressures. In addition, the company will relocate its production to Romania, China and Mexico, where the production cost is lower than Germany. These plans are in addition to 300 jobs cuts at the company's headquarters in Rosenheim first announced in September 2015.

Kathrein was founded in 1919 and headquartered in Rosenheim. Currently, 9,000 employees are working for Kathrein worldwide.
