Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dalmacijavino, the Croatian winery, has announced its closure which will result in the dismissal of up to 295 workers. After two years and 11 unsuccessful attempts the company was sold in February 2015 for HRK 70.5 million (€9.4 million). The new owner announced that the winery would move to the City of Drnis, while workers from the plant in Split would become unemployed. The firm was established in 1963 and for years was a symbol of wine production in Dalmatia. Some other production facilities, warehouses and stores around Croatia were also sold or are in the process. The new owner announced that he would call the workers for employment if needed, but the chance for this eventuality is very small.
