Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swedish ball bearing producer SKF has given notice to 160 workers in Gothenburg of redundancy. The redundancies are due to lower production volumes, and no expectation of improvement in the short run. Negotiations with the union have been initiated and are expected to be finished in early December. Earlier this year, the ERM reported on another restructuring case at the same SKF site.
Update 09/12/2015: SKF announces that 150 of the 160 workers given notice in October will be let go due to lower production volumes. 135 let go through direct dismissals.
