Description

Oil drilling company Transocean will dismiss 250 employees as the rigs Transocean Searcher and Transocean Spitsbergen finish their current contracts. A staff reduction is already underway on the latter rig. Transocean employs 13,000 worldwide, 1,100 of which in Norway. Transocean has undergone several previous rounds of restructuring, most recently in November 2014 when 150 employees were made redundant after the rig Polar Pioneer was moved out of Norwegian waters. Union leader of SAFE in Transoceansays the cuts are highly dramatic for the employees, especially as they follow previous cuts.
