Global oilfield services provider Schlumberger is to cut 120 jobs in France out of a total workforce of about 2,000 employees. The job cuts are part of a worldwide restructuring announced in April that involves about 11,000 job cuts. This will reduce the company’s workforce by 10%. However, the union CFDT has announced a higher rate (about 16- 17%). The cuts come in response to falling profits, which the company has blamed on falling crude oil prices and the resulting decline in extraction activities. The Technip group has recently announced about 6,000 jobs cuts worldwide for the same reasons.

Schlumberger employs 115,000 workers in over 85 countries.
