Description

Spanish textile firm Adolfo Domínguez has presented a collective dismissal plan affecting 144 employees (10% of its entire workforce). Dismissals are to affect the central offices in Orense. The job reduction measure is being discussed with the trade unions. Negotiations will last up to 30 days.

A demonstration against the dismissals was held on 1st June, after a meeting between the worker representatives and the management ended without an agreement. The trade unions demanded a withdrawal of the plan and a commitment of no layoffs to take place within a period of six years.

Update, 16 June 2015: Adolfo Dominguez's workers have voted in favour of a redundancy plan affecting 105 employees, instead of the 144 initially targeted. A total of 286 employees have expressed their approval. The agreement was reached on 12 June 2015. Compensation payments will amount to the equivalent of 35 days per year for those accepting voluntary redundancy. If the number of voluntary redundancies do not meet the expected figure then the company will make job reductions under different payment conditions. The agreement includes compensation of 30 days per year of service to a maximum of 24 years. The plan will not affect workers aged over 50. The company has also committed to avoiding layoffs over the next two years.
