Description

Automotive logistics company Gefco group has informed its central Works Council about the intention to cut 546 positions and create another 167. The net job loss will be 379.

The management is negotiating a social plan with the unions and expects to issue the first notices of dismissal by October 2015. The jobs will be cut across three divisions: road freight transport, storage and international transport services. At the same time, the group will recruit 167 employees.

The management points to a problem of competitiveness, a decline of the car manufacturing sector and a sharp competition that increase pressure on prices.  On 17 April, unions have organised a strike against the job cuts.

Update, 25 July 2015:  A social plan, which will lead to 472 job cuts, has been signed by Gefco's four trade unions: the CGC, CFDT, CFTC and FO. The agreement involves a voluntary departure scheme. Employees who wish to apply for the scheme must do so before 11 September 2015.
