Description
State-owned coal mining company Societatea de Inchideri Mine Valea Jiului is to cut 695 jobs in Uricani, Paroseni and Petrila by the end of 2015. The layoffs will take place in two phases: 225 employees will be let go as of 1 July 2015, and the other 470 employees will be made redundant between October and December 2015.
According to the collective agreement, the affected employees will benefit of severance payments. To this effect, about 226 million Euro (1.038 million RON) are to be allocated from the unemployment insurance budget for 2015. The 2015 programme for mine closures in Jiu Valley will benefit from state aids, facilitating the closure of uncompetitive coal mines, according to the provisions of European Commission Decision no. C (2012) 1020 and the expenditures approved by Government Decision no. 241/2015.
