Description

Norwegian public broadcaster NRK is  to cut 300 full time positions in 2015.

According to the media reports, the planned restructuring will result in the loss of 40 jobs at NRK regional division, 115 jobs at the headquarters in Oslo, and another 18 jobs in the news division. The regional offices in Hedmark, Oppland and Trøndelag will be hit hardest. Other affected regional offices are Møre og Romsdal, Rogaland, Sørlandet, Østfold and Østlandssendingen.

A significant part of the restructuring is to be accomplished by offering severance packages. By the end of May, 72 severance agreements will be signed and 28 are expected to be signed soon. Unions commented that the management should adjust the tasks and workload of the regional offices in accordance with the reduced staff.

The background for the restructuring is that the NRK broadcasting license fee, paid by households using a TV in Norway, was increased by just 25 NOK in 2015, instead of the 73 NOK the public broadcaster had asked for. To adjust costs, NRK will have 300 less employees by the end of 2015, compared to the year before.
