Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Alstom Grid Messwandler, a manufacturer of instrument transformers, has decided to relocate production from its unit in Ludwigslust to Kassel by April 2016 cutting 110 jobs.
The closure of Ludwigslust site affects 200 people. 90 of them will be offered new jobs in Kassel, so that 110 jobs will be cut in total. According to the production manager, the closure was necessary due to a decrease of production volume. The company has also lost one of its main clients.
The company is a subsidiary of Alstom, a French energy and transport company employing around 93,000 people worldwide, 8,600 of them in Germany.
