Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Wiesenhof, market leader in poultry meat production in Germany, has announced that it will cut 240 jobs in Bogen.
Due to a major fire at the site in Bogen, the poultry producer has given notice to 240 employees. 294 will continue to be employed.
This is the result of negotiations between the company, employment agency and the trade union NGG. A transfer agency is to be set up for the affected employees and they will receive severance payments. The director of NGG of Lower Saxony has called it an “acceptable solution”. Moreover, the employees shall be offered new jobs at the re-opening of the plant which is planned for autumn 2016.
The fire completely destroyed the plant in February and caused extensive damage.
