Description

Spanish hotel operator Hoteles Playa Senator intends to dismiss 239 employees and make 225 temporary dismissals. Most of the dismissals will affect cleaning staff in the hotels of Andalusia. The measure is currently being negotiated with the trade unions. According to the trade union CCOO, the reason behind this measure is the refusal of the trade union to negotiate a company collective agreement in 2012. The measure is opposed by the trade unions because it is considered unfair and out of proportion.

Hoteles Playa Senator employs 1,500 permanent jobs that can reach up to 3,000 when in the seasons where the tourists demand is increased. It operates a total of 28 hotels and two apart-hotels in the region of Andalucia, Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands.

Update, 26/2/15: it was announced that the company and the trade unions have agreed to cancel the planned dismissals. Moreover, the company will guarantee current employment levels until 2017.
