Description

1,003 jobs are to be lost at the French furniture retailer Mobilier européen due to liquidation proceedings. As reported, the furniture retail activities under the brands “Fly”, “Atlas” and “Crozatier” are partially taken over. The main takeover companies are : “NF Holding” that will maintain 41 “Fly” shops and take over 724 employees with 5 offers of relocation; the furniture retailer “But” that will take over 228 employees and will propose 119 offers of relocation; and Casalys will keep 4 shops with 36 employees. The headquarters in Kingersheim will lose 263 jobs on a total of 314 employees. Taking into account four other takeovers, the total amount of job cuts will reach 1,003 positions. This number could reach the 1,088 job loses if the 124 employees refuse the relocation offers. The liquidation of stock allows the group to finance an employment safeguard plan of €20 million for the dismissed employees.

Updated, 21-11-2014: the Commercial court of Mulhouse has agreed several partial takeover offers for the group Mobilier européen. However, 1003 employees will be dismissed and the government has announced a plan to help these workers to find a new job. All are invited to sign a “career path security contract” (contrat de sécurisation professionnelle) that provides to the former employees an allowance almost equal to their former salary for 12 months and in addition support to follow a professional training program. The employment public service will also launch an individual monitoring for each employee to support them in their employment search.
