Swedish car manufacturer Volvo Cars is expanding its workforce with 1,300 new positions due to increasing customer demand. The company will add another shift at its facility in Torslanda where most of the new positions will be located, but Volvo Cars will also hire at its sites in Skövde and Olofström. A third of the new positions will be temporary agency contracts as the company requires flexibility.

Most of the jobs will be on the production line, but they will also include maintenance posts and white-collar jobs. The recruitment process will begin immediately to fill the positions before April 2015 when production of the new XC90 SUV model will start at the site in Torslanda.

Volvo Cars, under Shanghai Geely Zhaoyuan International Investment, employs a total of 23,200 people worldwide. In Sweden, it employs 13,900 people. ERM has reported several other recent restructurings announced by Volvo Cars (2013a, 2013b).

Update, 04-05-2015: Due to increased demand for the XC90 model the extended shift at Volvo Cars has created 1,500 jobs instead of the originally planned 1,300.
