Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Medical device manufacturer, Beckman Coulter, is closing its Galway plant with the loss of 140 jobs.
However, 80 of this 140 are expected to relocate to the company's plant in Tulla, Co Clare.
The company's Galway plant had been operational for over 40 years. Beckman Coulter manufactures biomedical testing instrument systems, tests and supplies which simplify and automate laboratory processes.
Management is meeting with the SIPTU union on Wednesday, October 8th regarding the closure of the plant.
The closure of the Galway plant follows a review of operations undertaken by the US-based parent company in recent months. The largest component in the Galway unit is to move to the Co Clare plant.
