Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan has announced that it will cut between 160 and 180 jobs after merging with local newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad.
The source reports that Sydsvenskan and Helsingborgs Dagblad merged in April 2014. Of the announced job reductions, 86 are editorial with 35 posts to be cut at Helsingborgs Dagblad and 51 at Sydsvenskan. According to the source, Sydsvenskan has initiated the reductions to increase efficiency as a result of the merger. The source also reports that Helsingborgs Dagblad cut 25 jobs in spring 2014. Sydsvenskan will begin negotiations with employee groups after the summer.
