Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The pharmaceutical company MSD has announced restructuring measures which will affect its establishments in Belgium and Luxembourg and will result in 150 job losses. MSD is going through a large, worldwide restructuring of the mother company Merck & Co. On 10th May 2014, the company announced its intention to implement changes in the administration, sales and marketing departments in its establishments in Belgium and Luxembourg, which currently employ 417 people.
The division of the job losses between the two establishments is not yet reported.
In April 2014, another 24 employees lost their jobs in the company’s production establishment (1,400 employees) in Heist-op-den-Berg (Belgium).
