Description

The Swedish Coastguard, Kustbevakningen, has announced that it will cut 125 jobs. This is approximately 20% of their workforce. The source reports that 67 jobs will be cut from the management and support departments in Karlskrona, Nyköping, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Härnösand and 58 jobs will be cut at local level. According to the source, the job cuts will affects eight of the 13 counties in Sweden and will mean less surveillance at sea by between 30-40%.

The source reports that the job reduction is a result of a decrease in funding from the national budget. The new budget allocation will lead to a deficit of SEK 133 million (€ 14.6 million) by 2016 for the Coastguard. The job reduction is a means to avoid this budget deficit.
