Description
Peters Shipyards has been declared bankrupt, resulting in the loss of 100 jobs in Kampen. The company had produced about four cargo transport vessels each year and it had an annual turnover of approximately €50 million. According to the source, the bankruptcy was caused when one large customer was unable to continue paying the company for its order.
In mid-April, the receiver announced that it was investigating the possibility of reopening the company. The source reports that several prospective buyers have shown interest in taking over the company. The source notes that there has been political interest in the closure. The Dutch minister of Economic affairs has said that he will investigate whether the ministry can guarantee bank loans to the company. However, it is still unclear if this intervention will be able to save the jobs.
