Description
British multinational Imperial Tobacco group announced a restructuring plan affecting its sites in France with a reduction of 360 jobs. As reported the company is to close its Carquefou plant (Loire-Atlantique) with the loss of 320 jobs and move the production activities to Poland. The plant formerly run by Seita, the French state tobacco company, produces Gauloises and Gitanes cigarettes. Additionally, 120 more jobs are to be affected since the company plans to close its Bergerac R&D facility (24 jobs) and reorganise its sales force sites in Paris and a research centre in Loiret. The company also plans to create 80 new jobs in France. The time frame for the restructuring is not known yet. As announced, the job reduction measure is part of a European cost-cutting plan due to overcapacity and declined turnover.
UPDATE 15-10-2014 : management and unions have signed an agreement on the social plan. The plan forecast to pay a 1.5 month allowance per year of seniority with the company and the possibility to leave the company for employees with 52 years old age (or more) with 70% of their former salary.
