Description
US electronics company and IT distributor Ingram Micro announced the loss of 180 jobs in Belgium, 90 at the European headquarters in Vilvorde and another 90 jobs in other sites in Belgium. As part of the restructuring the logistics facilities in Machelen will be transferred to Tilburg, the Netherlands.
The decision is attributed to the need to face globalisation by being more competitive. The aim is to capitalise on local expertise for the global market. The restructuring is expected to be implemented gradually through 2014.
Trade unions have shown their protest through a strike. Moreover, the ‘Renault procedure’ has been launched in order to discuss and negotiate the social plan.
