Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Oulun yliopisto (University of Oulu) has announced redundancies of up to 130 persons among 1,700 staff. The university has initiated negotiations with employee representatives on the proposed cuts.
The university has approximately 3,100 employees of whom 1,700 are subject to redundancy talks. Out of them, up to 130 positions are to be cut. The university is seeking annual savings of €5.5 million, since it has recently lost €10 million of state budget funding. Redundancy negotiations focus on units that are expected to run a deficit. The talks are set to conclude on April 22 and the university could make decisions on redundancies in early May.
