Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Secop Kompresorji, manufacturer of compressors located in Crnomelj (Jugovzhodna Slovenija), is offshoring its production to Slovakia, dismissing all of its 360 staff.
The company has been in receivership since the beginning of 2014. Secop Kompresorji currently employs 360 staff of whom 80 employees will be laid off the end of April, another 170 by the end of June and the last 110 by the end of September 2014.
The company is owned by German Aurelius. In 2011, the ERM reported on a previous case of offshoring at the same plant that employed about 950 staff at the time.
