Supermarket chain Colruyt announced its intention to cease activities of the printing division in Symeta, a subsidiary specialised in printing and managing of documents. This will lead to the cut of 108 jobs in Halle. The job cuts will affect 80 blue-collar workers and 28 white-collar workers. According to the management, the decision comes from the need to discontinue the extensive use of partial unemployment (i.e. short time work) due to the non-profitability of the factory. Colruyt announced that it will redeploy as many employees as possible within the group.

Unions declared their intention to have a constructive dialogue with the management and negotiate a reduction of the number of layoffs. The ‘Renault’ procedure will be launched shortly.
