Electronic components manufacturer Kemet Electronics is to close a production line in Évora by 30 June, making 127 workers redundant. In particular, this will affect  employees with a seniority of more than ten years.

The company stated that the job cuts were due to structural reasons, but worker representatives have claimed that production is to be relocated to Mexico. The company had already attempted to offshore part of its production in 2012, a plan that failed due to the lack of licenses for the Mexican plant.

Next Friday, employees will move to the Ministry of Economy to deliver a document with arguments against collective dismissals.

Kemet Electronics is a US-based multinational.
