Description

Hotel chain Travelodge has announced that it is to create over 1,000 jobs in the UK this year.

This follows from plans to open 15 new hotels in the country, investing a total of GBP 100 million. The company said that the new sites would include 5 in London, taking its number to 65 in London by the end of the year.

By the end of the year, the company will have a total of 514 hotels.  The hotel chain has consistently increased staff numbers, with previous expansion reported in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Updated, 21-03-2014: Travelodge has opened a 157-room hotel in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens and created 31 jobs. This is part of a large business expansion announced earlier this year.

Updated, 08-09-2014: Travelodge has announced the creation of 166 new jobs. The jobs have been created as a result of the hotel chain opening six new hotels in Southampton, Llandudno, Raynes Park, Wembley, Greenwich and Egham. A further 40 new jobs will be based in the head office in Thame, Oxfordshire. The company is also planning to recruit 40 apprentices across the UK under its junior management programme (JuMP). This latest announcement is consistent with media reporting in February about the hotel chain's plans to create a large number of new jobs in the UK in 2014. The Travelodge chain now has 500 hotels and 38,000 rooms across the UK.
