Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Wholesale chain Makro announced its intention to cut 374 of its 3,000 workplaces.
According to the management, the measure is due to the necessity to reduce costs while remaining competitive.
For unions, the decision is not a surprise as they were aware that the company was in financial difficulties. They hope to have direct dismissals reduced via an early retirement plan.
The timeline of the restructuring is not confirmed yet.
