Description
Swedish multinational food and beverages packaging company Tetra Pak announced plans to close its Moerdijk plant, with the loss of 215 jobs at the end of 2014. As reported, the closure is due to overcapacity linked with a 16pc drop in sales in Central and Northern Europe since 2007. According to the sources Tetra Pak has started the consultation process with the works council and the unions.
Update 19.05.2014: Following announcement of the closure, the unions threatened strike action in April to achieve a better social plan, especially for older employees. According to the source, the firm and the unions agreed on a new social plan on 19 May 2014.
