Description

Electronics giant Sharp is to cease its production of solar panels at Wrexham, Wales, resulting in the loss of 250 workplaces. Furthermore, the contracts of an additional 365 temporary agency workers will not be renewed.

The company stated that the plant was uncompetitive, but that it would continue to produce microwave ovens and that additional products may be developed for production.

Negotiations between the management and worker representatives were announced.

The Wrexham factory has been producing solar panels since 2004. In 2011, the company had announced the creation of 300 workplaces in its solar panel production at this site.
