Description
Croatian Post (Hrvatska Posta - HP) is to cut 270 jobs.
With a total workforce of 9,650 people, HP employs 1,020 people less than in the mid of 2012. As reported, the state-owned company will implement futher job reductions aiming to rationalise its costs in response to the strong competition. More than a third of the redundancies involve administrative jobs and the cost-cutting plan envisages the use of severance pay.
According to media reports, the employees oppose the plan. Representatives of two trade unions and around 200 workers demonstrated on 21st November demanding the cancellation of the job cuts. The management refers to the need for cost optimisation in order to increase efficiency and argues that similar companies in the area of postal services in the EU and globally responded to the trend of continuous decline in revenue by downsizing.
