Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nordkalk is to make 53 workers redundant in Finland by the end of June 2014. According to the company, most cuts will be achieved through early retirements. Redundancies are mostly to affect the sites at Lappeenranta (27 redundancies), Pargas (17) and Lohja (7).
The restructuring is due to sluggish demand, particularly in the construction and paper industry. The management seeks to achieve annual savings of up to EUR 5 million.
Nordkalk is headquartered in Pargas, employing about 1,100 staff worldwide. In addition to Finland, the company operates in eight other countries, where redundancies are also possible.
