Description

The energy group GDF Suez is to create 8,000 jobs for young people by 2015. The plan is part of a job creation initiative, envisaging 20,000 new jobs in the same timeframe. Jobs will mainly be offered in technical positions.

The creation of 8,000 jobs is in the framework of generation contracts, aiming at combatting youth unemployment. 3,000 ones refer to workers under 25 years old, and 5,000 ones refer to workers between 25 and 35. According to the generation contract, workers older than 55 are offered a 20pc working time cut without a salary effect in exchange for their commitment to engage in on-the-job training for the young.

The group also announced plans to recruit workers older than 50 years old (approx. 6pc of the 20,000 new jobs).

GDF Suez employs 138,200 workers worldwide. In France, it operates 40 sites, employing about 74,000 staff. The group had emerged from the merger of Gaz de France and Suez that had been announced in 2007 and that had promised a job creation of 60,000 in France until 2013.
