Description

Optical glass manufacturer Carl Zeiss is to reduce its workforce in France by 256 positions by 2014.

The initiative follows the loss of the contract with its main client Grand Vision.

Dismissals are to affect the plant in Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine) where 150 out of 440 positions will be cut, and the plant in Aubergenville (Yvelines) that is to be closed down with the consequent redundancy of 106 staff.

Carl Zeiss group is Germany-based and employs 24,000 staff worldwide.
