Description
The Gratkorn paper mill of the global pulp and paper enterprise Sappi is to make 100 employees redundant within the next two to two-and-a-half years. The mill, which is situated near Graz (Styria), currently employs 1,165 workers.
One hundred workers are going to be made redundant due to decreasing demand and falling production levels.
Restructuring measures are to be worked out over the next two-three months whereas the implementation will take two to two-and-a-half years.
According to the company's works council, job cuts through natural attrition will probably not be sufficient. The paper mill is one of the three largest of its kind worldwide, with a production capacity of 250,000 tons of pulp and 950,000 tons of coated woodfree paper.
