Description

On 5 September 2013, the German tourism and travel company TUI has announced a new restructuring of its French activities (the travel agencies and tour operators Nouvelles Frontières and Marmara, the airline company Corsair) with over 300 job losses. According to the management, 306 jobs will be cut, however the actual number of cuts is disputed between unions and management.

A voluntary departure plan affecting 247 employees with the closure of about 26 agencies (employing 129 people) and another 118 job cuts at the headquarters is confirmed by both unions and employers.

The restructuring plan also envisages the transfer of about 30 travel agencies in franchise; this will affect 59 positions. Unions estimated a higher number of affected employees. Discussions will now start between management and information-consultation bodies to clarify the number of affected positions.

The TUI group has merged its different subsidiaries in France on the 1st January 2012 launching a social plan back in 2012 with 484 consequent job cuts (see factsheet). On the 10 September, the unions FO and CGT have called for a two-hour strike against the restructuring plan.
