Description

Multinational food and beverage producer Nestlé has recently announced its plan to recruit 20,000 young workers across Europe by 2016.

The “Youth Employment Initiative” envisages the creation of 10,000 jobs for people under the age of 30 and adittional 10,000 traineeship and apprenticeship positions.

As announced, the company is not planning to increase its overall workforce by 10,000, since part of these vacancies will provide replacements for retired workers. Additionally, the initiative will include as well company’s recent investments in plants across Germany, France, Spain and the UK.

Moreover, recognising high youth unemployment in Southern European Member States, Nestlé will provide opportunities for young people from these regions in northern countries.

After September 2013 a more detailed plan is expected to be presented.

The company, which has its headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland, currently employs around 339,000 staff and is one of the largest food companies worldwide.

At the launch event of the initiative in Greece, it was announced that all Nestlé teams in Europe will contribute to the job creation initiative. For example, Nestlé announced it would hire 3,000 young people in France, 2,420 in Germany, 1,250 in Spain and 1,080 in Italy over the three-year period, including both direct recruitment and apprenticeship/traineeships positions.
