Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Eesti Energia Tehnoloogiatööstus, builder of metal constructions and affiliate of Eesti Energia will merge its Narva and Jõhvi plants and make 80 employees redundant. The merger will be completed by the end of November; the renewed plant will be located in Jõhvi and redundancies will affect those workplaces that were duplicated in the two different plants.
The aim of the merger is to create a plant with more effective, efficient and modern working environment. The company will invest the money saved from closing down Narva plant to improve the facilities and working conditions in Jõhvi plant.
Redundant workers who have two or less years left till retirement and at least 10 years tenure at Eesti Energia will be paid a monthly company pension of €250. To help the other redundant employees, the company will cooperate with Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund.
